I now have 3 vehicles (not including my SO’s Focus). Bought a ‘92 Chevy C/K series. Reg. cab, short box RWD with the 5.o (305) V8.

Only paid $700 for this little project truck. 312k km on it, minor surface rust in a couple spots. It just needs an exhaust system, some paint and a transmission rebuild/replacement. Nonetheless I have got big plans for it.

Nothing serious! Just a little surface rust over the wheel wells

almost considered no rust for a canadian truck.

I had some “surface rust” on my rear wheel well. Then I hit it with a wire brush and now I have a hole.

But the rust is gone, right?

4.3/700R4? Or 305/350?

Here in Canada, this is considered no rust! Haha

!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!

I can only think of one thing it needs.

Kinja'd!!!

But in all seriousness that is surprisingly clean for having 312k kms. Good find! I’m almost jealous but I love my squarebody to much to be jealous.

did the same thing to my old jeep but on the frame. Had to weld the frame, since 20% of the frame was rust.

Looks like a good starting point. What kinds of plans?

I hope it’s gonna be a classic 1990s muscle truck with billet wheels, colour-matched grille and bumpers, real wood in the bed, giant subwoofers behind the seats... Am I close?

Can you imagine how powerful and fast it would be with the 572. I’d have to throw the old motor in the box just to give it some traction! I was thinking of eventually swapping the engine out for at least the 454 from the SS model.

I was surprised how clean it was as well and for $700? That's a steal.

I fully approve. This was the last generation of good-looking trucks GM ever built.

I was thinking of getting it all black, like the old 454 SS:

Possibly with a set of 18-20” wheels

These trucks are pretty much bulletproof to. This is when GMs trucks wouldn’t quit no matter how much you beat on them.

You’re actually pretty close to what I’m going to do. I’m going to paint the whole truck black similar to how the 454 SS came:

Kinja'd!!!

Then I’m going to put on dual exhaust and find a set of 18-20” wheels to throw on, maybe something like either of these:

Kinja'd!!!

Kinja'd!!!

Definitely replace all the speakers and radio in it, possibly put in 2 10” subwoofers behind the seats. Then tint the windows extra dark and she’ll be good to go.

Oh man! The 454 SS! Great idea, plans to swap in a big-block too?

Personal preference - stop at 17” or even 16” for the wheels. Everything else my inner 13 year-old approves of.

I was actually thinking of eventually doing an engine swap with the 454 motor. That 305 feels so small, it literally only takes up half the engine bay.

As for the wheels, I was leaning toward 18” just because it will fill the wheel wells a lot better. The current rims don’t match the size of the body and they look like they belong on a civic since they’re only 15”

My dad was working at a salvage yard during Cash for Clunkers. A local dealership brought all the traded in vehicles there to be murdered. One of them was a ‘93 K1500 with the 350. It ran for 5 minutes with nothing in the crankcase but a quart of that liquid glass shit they were using to kill motors. By comparison, a Jeep 4.0L I6 lasted 45 seconds.

Kinja'd!!!1

That is quite impressive. The 350 was a fantastic motor, wasn’t perfect but it would last damn near forever. Enough torque to pull down a house but my god was it ever slow. The 325 that replaced it for 2000 wasn’t quite as bulletproof but it did offer better performance and fuel efficiency so it was a fair trade.

A GM will run badly longer than most vehicles will run.

Crate engine? Does GM even sell a crate Duramax? Looks to be in good shape for a Canadian GMT400.

GM doesn’t sell Duramax engines but a diesel conversion would be amazing. It’s in fantastic shape for the mileage and how old it is.

I’m sure *someone* has DMAX crate engines (I’d *figuratively* eat a Mountie’s hat if Gale Banks didn’t have a crate build package Duramax) . If not there’s always the used engine market on eBay.

Or you could go 4BT or 6BT (probably 4BT. Due to length...). Possibly ISB5.9 if you wanted an extra challenge.

I have a 95 F-150 with the 351 in it. But I may be looking to sell it and replace it with a 2005 Silverado 2500 diesel. It seems stupid (97K miles on the Ford to 305K on the Chevy) but I don’t have to drive it everyday. Also, no rust. And 4WD.
